Next up in our Meet Jackpocket series is Matt Silber, Senior Mobile Developer and Co-Founder of Jackpocket.
1. How did you get involved with the idea that would eventually be Jackpocket?
Back in summer of 2012, Pete (Jackpocket’s CEO) and I were both working for separate companies in an accelerator at Dreamit Ventures. He was working on Tripl and I was working on Vantageous. The following summer, as I was about to graduate, I got a phone call “Hey Matt, are you still doing Android development?” The very next day, I was on a train to New York. I’ve been here ever since.
2. Best part of the job?
The environment is challenging but fun. Plus, I get to work with my best friend from high school, Tom Murray. He’s the greatest artist I ever met. And I knew that in the 6th grade.
3. How has Jackpocket changed from the very beginning?
From three dudes to 50 people, the core culture really hasn’t changed much. Every time we’ve grown, the fit has been just right. Each developer on the team has a critical role to fill.
4. What is your favorite app (besides ours) right now?
Robinhood. I think they have a really great design and engineering team. Their education and some of the subtle animations that they have come up with are really on point.
5. What country do you most want to visit?
Definitely Australia. I want to swim in the Great Barrier Reef before it’s gone.
6. What always makes you laugh, no matter what?
Reading code I wrote years ago.
7. Any hidden talents?
I think I can do a handstand. We’ll have to find out. 🤸♂️
